Dolores McCullagh

Ms. Dolores McCullagh

Ms. Dolores McCullagh first developed her interest in Chinese language and culture on first seeing the benefits of Chinese medicine. This experience led her to undertake three years of intensive study, and while already a teacher of maths and science, having graduated with a B.Sc in University College Dublin and later the Higher Diploma in 1982, she graduated as a practitioner with a Licence in Chinese Medicine (LCM).  Following that, she worked as a practitioner of acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Sometime later she engaged in a Chinese language evening class in Trinity College Dublin. Realizing the importance of holistic healing, she studied for, and added a BA in Psychoanalytical Studies from Dublin Business School (formerly LSB) to her LCM.

While recording thirty years of teaching mathematics and science, Dolores still found time to pursue her love of the Chinese language and culture by initially graduating with a Professional Diploma. That meant she could add Chinese to her teaching portfolio, which whetted her appetite for further study of the language. This led to an MA (Honours) in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture from UCD’s Irish Institute for Chinese Studies in 2021.  She is presently continuing her studies in Chinese and hopes to sit HSK 5 in the future.

Dolores continues to be an active member of IACT and sees the immediate benefits of this membership at a personal development level. It will also  enhance and enrich her own teaching of Chinese in the future and hopefully pass on to future Chinese teachers the benefits she herself received from her studies.
